Crowns and Bridges – Port City Family Dentistry
A dental crown is basically a step up from a filling. Crowns are made of either gold or porcelain, and thus are stronger than normal fillings. A bridge is a row of false teeth used to literally bridge the gap between two healthy teeth. It is considered a preferable alternative to dentures. Bridges are made of the same materials. A bridge is installed by placing it and gluing both ends to the back of the adjacent teeth. This gives them plenty of stability while maintaining a normal appearance on the outside. Porcelain obviously looks a lot more like a tooth than gold does, but it can be less vibrant over time and thus sometimes cause aesthetic problems for the patient. Still, it is a better alternative than having a smile with a hole in it.
